From Wyoming Author Bill Sniffin:  New book features Wyoming’s favorite places – here is your chance to participate

Your area along with other places all over Wyoming will be featured prominently in a new book planned for distribution this fall.

The coffee table book  MyWyoming: Stories and Photos of 101 Fascinating Places is by Bill Sniffin.  It is the followup to the very successful book published in 2012 called Wyoming’s 7 Greatest Natural Wonders. Format for the new book will be similar to the old book including 30-plus photographers and 14 foldout photos that are 13”x30” in size.

Sniffin is soliciting stories and photos from people all over the state for inclusion in the new book. Persons should send stories about their favorite places to mystory@mywyomingbook.com or send to PO Box 900, Lander, WY 82520. Editors will try to match up the stories with beautiful photos of that area. Stories will be 150 to 500 words in length.

Persons with outstanding photos of Wyoming are encouraged to submit them, too. They will be paid for the use of their photos.

Top-notch Wyoming photographers like Dewey Vanderhoff, Woody Wooden, Randy Wagner, Dan Hayward and Scott Copeland were included in the last book and will be featured again in the new book.

The earlier book sold 14,000 copies over a 15-month period, making it one of the best-selling books in Wyoming.

WY-P-A being enjoyed at Freedom’s Edge Brewery in Cheyenne…

WY-P-A — What is it and why are people talking so much about it?

Since mid-April, we’ve been including news on WY-P-A on our blogs, and it has appeared in local newspapers and on Facebook. But…what is it? And why is it such a big deal? Here’s our synopsis and why we’re excited:  WY-P-A is a collaboration beer, created through the joint efforts of many of the breweries throughout Wyoming.  There are several breweries in Wyoming, and they all are quite awesome for the same reasons as well as reasons unique to them. There are many things I have learned about beer since we began Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine:  #1 — Beer is an art form. And brewers, with the breweries that they represent, are artists in the purest sense of the word. Just because you can consume their media does not make it any less art, in my book.  #2 — Craft brewing has a following unique to anything else out there, and brewers are a friendly bunch. From my conversations with brewers in a few of Wyoming’s breweries, they’re also friendly with each other. And WY-P-A is a good demonstration of that.

Coming together in Pinedale in mid-April to create WY-P-A

So Wyoming’s breweries came together in mid-April, in Pinedale, and had a weekend of palling around and making a new brew. A brew that they all had a part in — that they all collaborated in. Hence, we have WY-P-A, a pale ale that is a collaboration of all the breweries together. Now THAT’S pretty darn cool, in my opinion. It’s kinda like the best bronze sculptors across Wyoming coming together to all make one massive, amazing sculpture. Or the best painters coming together to create one gigantic mural at once. Cool, right? Absolutely.

On May 14, this past Monday, the breweries across Wyoming opened their taps and all served a portion of this collaborative, super cool effort, this WY-P-A. (I *believe* the word is that it’s still out there, although I heard from Snake River Brewing that it was a-going fast.) On May 14, also, those who dig the craft beer scene headed down to their local Wyoming brewery to sample this effort — so, in effect, a bunch of Wyoming’s citizens collaborated at once to sample a collaboration brew. Again — cool, right? Absolutely.

So in the spirit of this super-cool event, and in the hopes that it continue in the future, we raise a glass and congratulate the Wyoming breweries who put their teamwork into this collaborative brew — and hope that you get to enjoy it too! Click on the link below to check out the slide show of images from those Wyoming breweries that were so kind to share — a little bit of their own WY-P-A excitement, local-style… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0n8DlHAhS8

WYOMING BREWERS UNITE TO CREATE WY-P-A — THERE’S NO ‘I’ IN ‘BEER’

Last weekend, several of Wyoming’s brewers united in Pinedale at WindRiver Brewing to create a collaboration brew. “WY-P-A” (Wyoming Pale Ale) is a combined effort of Wyoming’s breweries. WY-P-A’s style will encompass a traditional IPA (India Pale Ale) “…with a twist of Wyoming thrown in for good measure,” Tim Harland of Snake River Brewing in Jackson adds. Each brewer from around the state brought a portion of the ingredients to Pinedale last weekend for this historic brew. Nathan Venner of Altitude Brewery in Laramie states, “The most important and intangible ingredients that will be provided are the camaraderie shared between us and the sweat put forth in creating this brew.” The idea is the brain child of Steve Simpson of Saratoga’s Snowy Mountain Brewing. Tim Harland of Snake River Brewing in Jackson wrote in our latest issue of Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine:

“Steve was crucial in this effort as he personally contacted every brewery and encouraged their participation. After the (Saratoga Steinley Cup) festival, brewers convened at his brewery and over several of his local beers, the concept for a collaboration beer was explored.”

Simpson explains the motivation behind the beer:  “Brewing a collaborative beer gives us Wyoming brewers a chance to get together, share ideas, exchange knowledge and use our individual strengths to create a beer that’s bigger than any single one of us.” He adds, “Since we come from the least populated state in the union, Wyoming’s incredible beers can sometimes get overlooked or don’t garner the attention like those of more populated metropolitan areas.”

According to Harland, WY-P-A  is scheduled to be released on Monday, May 14th. The goal is to have a ceremonial statewide and simultaneous tapping of WY-P-A at all of the participating pub and brewery locations in honoring the onset of National Craft Beer Week. The beer will continue to be poured at each respective brewery, until every last drop has been consumed.
