Memorial Day Weekend is upon us! What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

JACKSON — WILD WEST DAYS & OLD WEST BREW FEST

So here’s what our buddies at Snake River Brewing have to say about the Old West Brew Fest on Saturday (TOMORROW!):  “THIS SATURDAY on the Jackson Hole Town Square at 11:00am directly following the parade. Regional and national breweries unite under the HUGE tent with music, food and award winning beers. Come and join the fun! All proceeds go to underwriting the Old West Days weekend.”  Sweet!

The JH Rotary Wine Fest kicks off the weekend (that’s tonight!) You can get tickets at the door to the event, which is held at Snow King from 5-8 PM. On Saturday morning, the parade kicks off at 10 AM at Town Square, the brew fest kicks off at 11 AM, there are carriage rides available for a fee downtown…THEN, the Shoot Out will take place at 6 PM, and the rodeo at 8 PM — and that’s just on Saturday!

For more events, visit the event page by clicking here — via the JH Chamber of Commerce (who rocks!)

WYOMING BREWERS UNITE TO CREATE WY-P-A — THERE’S NO ‘I’ IN ‘BEER’

Last weekend, several of Wyoming’s brewers united in Pinedale at WindRiver Brewing to create a collaboration brew. “WY-P-A” (Wyoming Pale Ale) is a combined effort of Wyoming’s breweries. WY-P-A’s style will encompass a traditional IPA (India Pale Ale) “…with a twist of Wyoming thrown in for good measure,” Tim Harland of Snake River Brewing in Jackson adds. Each brewer from around the state brought a portion of the ingredients to Pinedale last weekend for this historic brew. Nathan Venner of Altitude Brewery in Laramie states, “The most important and intangible ingredients that will be provided are the camaraderie shared between us and the sweat put forth in creating this brew.” The idea is the brain child of Steve Simpson of Saratoga’s Snowy Mountain Brewing. Tim Harland of Snake River Brewing in Jackson wrote in our latest issue of Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine:

“Steve was crucial in this effort as he personally contacted every brewery and encouraged their participation. After the (Saratoga Steinley Cup) festival, brewers convened at his brewery and over several of his local beers, the concept for a collaboration beer was explored.”

Simpson explains the motivation behind the beer:  “Brewing a collaborative beer gives us Wyoming brewers a chance to get together, share ideas, exchange knowledge and use our individual strengths to create a beer that’s bigger than any single one of us.” He adds, “Since we come from the least populated state in the union, Wyoming’s incredible beers can sometimes get overlooked or don’t garner the attention like those of more populated metropolitan areas.”

According to Harland, WY-P-A  is scheduled to be released on Monday, May 14th. The goal is to have a ceremonial statewide and simultaneous tapping of WY-P-A at all of the participating pub and brewery locations in honoring the onset of National Craft Beer Week. The beer will continue to be poured at each respective brewery, until every last drop has been consumed.

JACKSON — Snake River Brewery:  Snake River Brewing has turned to a full can and keg brewery! The brewery made the move from bottles to cans for many reasons — a highlighted list:   cans are better for beer (oxygen & UV light are kept out); their cans are made in Worland, WY (we love local!); the lighter cans take less fossil fuels to ship; cans are great for local recycling centers… We’re digging it!

GOSHEN COUNTY — Table Mountain Vineyards:  It’s no secret that we dig darn near everything that Patrick and our other buds over at TMV put out there. Read Patrick’s latest column in the current issue of Lifestyle (“A Sprinter Walk Through the Vines”), and check out this video they put out of the Sandhill Cranes migrating past the vineyard… Is it food? No. Is it made by a rocking Wyoming winery? Yes. As you prepare for your summer adventures, I highly recommend placing Goshen County on your list:  visit Fort Laramie National Historic Site and fill your brain with some amazing Wyoming history; then journey over to nearby Huntley and visit the winery. Their tasting room is full of good wine AND good Wyoming-made products…
