CHEYENNE — CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS, THROUGH JULY 28

Here we go, Cheyenne — CFD is HERE!!! DUBOIS — National Day of the Cowboy, July 26 & 27

Lots of western fun to be had at this great annual event! This year, Longmire fans rejoice! They’ll be incorporating a tip of the hat to WY author Craig Johnson & will feature autographed Longmire Books, bumper stickers & a Red Pony Saloon ball cap or 2 in our NDOC celebration on July 27th. CASPER — Casper Air Modelers Fun Fly — July 26-28

Regional Fun Fly for RC Plane Enthusiasts and Spectators

Starting Friday July 26th and continuing through Sunday July 28th, Casper Air Modelers are excited to announce the 2013 Annual Fun Fly and RC Aircraft Fly In. The fly in weekend will provide a great opportunity for air modelers around the region to showcase their models, machines and skills. All ages are welcomed to attend and view model aircraft, flying demonstrations and talk with experts about radio controlled aircraft. Their will be aircraft of all types, shapes and sizes such as large scale airplanes up to 10′ wing spans, micro electric RC aircraft, electric and gas operated helicopters and everything in between. RC pilots are welcomed to attend and fly but an AMA membership is required to conform to insurance regulations. The Casper Air Modelers facility is located just north of the Casper Events Center and just west of the motocross track north of Casper. Models will be on display and flying will be done weather permitting from 8am to 8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.Visit their website for more information!

 

Lander — 5th Annual RiverFest, July 27

Excited to hear that The Lander Art Center will host the 5th Annual Riverfest Art and Music in the Park!

Saturday, July 27th
9:30am-8pm in Lander City Park.

Spend the day in Lander’s beautiful city park enjoying great art, live music, fun activities, and delicious food and drink! This event offers 30 booths of high quality original artwork from local and regional artists. Artwork includes jewelry, metal, woodworking, painting, photography, leather work, ceramics, fiber and paper arts.

There will be artist demonstrations, art activities and face painting from the Lander Art Center and an activity from the Lander Children’s Museum.

This year’s performances include:

Youth dance led by Jackson Hole Dancers Workshop

Buffalo Bill Boycott Band, Lander WY

Drag the River, Fort Collins CO

Chanman Roots Band, Jackson WY
Entry $5, kids free
All proceeds support the Lander Art Center in putting on this event.

CASPER: REGIONAL FIDDLE CHAMPIONSHIP, MUSIC FEST, ART & CRAFT SHOW/SALE: AUGUST 17-19, YELLOWSTONE GARAGE

The festival includes the 22nd Annual Rocky Mountain Regional Fiddle Championships, and the 1st Annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sale. The festival begins Friday evening around 8pm with an informal ice-breaker jam session as musicians and fans arrive. Arts & Crafts opens along with the music competition, which includes numerous nationally certified fiddle categories, including guitar, variety instrument, female and male vocals. CURT GOWDY:  ANTELOPE DASH, AUGUST 25

The third annual Antelope Dash–a Race to Benefit the Nature Conservancy in Wyoming, will be on Saturday, August 25th, 2012, at Curt Gowdy State Park, in between Cheyenne and Laramie. There will be 4-mile or 8-mile options which participants can walk, jog, run, or race. Post-race pancake brunch by the Laramie Kiwanis, souvenir running socks for participants. JACKSON:  CALDERA FESTIVAL, AUGUST 17 & 18

The inaugural Caldera Festival is a fusion of art, music, and fashion, showcasing the unique culture of Jackson, Wyoming – a place unlike any in the world. The two day festival will utilize the 550 seat theater and 55,000 square foot lawn of the Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson to welcome Terra:Textile on Friday evening and an outdoor concert featuring musician Andrew Bird on Saturday night. LARAMIE:  OLD LARAMIE CITY BROTHEL TOUR , AUGUST 24, 5:30-6:30

This tour will emphasize how prostitution facilitated the economic growth and development of Laramie City. The tour will begin at the 1st Street Plaza, move east to Grand News Stand (the site of the Grover Institute—Christy Grover’s elaborate Victorian brothel), then move north along the front street architecture (specifically designed to facilitate retail businesses on the ground level, with the small side entrances, leading to staircases for brothels on the second floor level). The tour will end at Second Story Books for a good look at the original brothel rooms, now used in the bookstore.  Social, cultural, and health issues surrounding the economics of prostitution will be discussed, as well as the tax revenue gleaned from the industry.Note: This tour is NOT appropriate for children 12 and under.  http://www.laramiemainstreet.org/Events.html

SARATOGA: STEINLEY CUP MICROBREW FEST AUGUST 18

“Come for the Beer… Stay for the Bull”  Held on Veteran’s Island in Saratoga, Wyoming the microbrewery competition brings together the top professional microbreweries in Wyoming in search of the coveted Saratoga Steinley Cup traveling trophy and is Wyoming’s original and only official microbrewery competition. Live music and great eats complete the event. Stick around for the Saratoga Bullfest, a bull riders-only event at Buck Springs Saturday evening. The cost is $20 per person. THIRD ANNUAL WY KIDS EXTREME CAVE EXPLORATION ADVENTURE — SINKS CANYONE STATE PARK — AUGUST 11

Applications are available for the Third Annual Wyoming Kids eXtreme Cave Exploration Adventure at Sinks Canyon State Park, Aug. 11. Through the Wyoming Kids Xtreme program, developed by the Wyoming Division of State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails, kids will get the chance to participate in real cave exploration. On August 11, State Park employees will take kids and their parents on a tour of a Sinks Canyon State Park cave. Tours will begin in one-hour intervals beginning at 9 a.m. Applications are available on-line (CLICK HERE) and must be turned in by August 8. WHAT FEST — RIVERSIDE, JULY 27-28

The festival took a big move this year — 350 miles to be exact. The festival is moving from Clark, WY to Riverside, WY, featuring acts from all across the state in all genres from hip hop to bluegrass to ska to funk to country to folk to punk to rock to americana. With such close proximity to the front range, they’re also excited to feature eight of the finest acts from Colorado. NATIONAL ELK REFUGE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

National Elk Refuge Manager Steve Kallin is pleased to announce an exciting line-up of programs scheduled for Friday, August 10 through Sunday, August 12 to celebrate and honor the Refuge’s 100-year history. The weekend of centennial celebration dates were selected to coincide with the historic date of August 10, 1912 when an Act of Congress set aside lands “for the establishment of a winter game (elk) reserve in the State of Wyoming, lying south of the Yellowstone Park…”

Centennial activities will kick off at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 10 at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center, located at 532 N. Cache Street in Jackson. MISS RODEO WYOMING 2012 PAGEANT RESULTS

Kimberly Kuhn, Miss Sheridan-WYO of Laramie, took home the honors of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2012.  The Miss Rodeo Wyoming pageant was held in Douglas, WY August 16-20, 2011 during the Wyoming State Fair.  There were 4 young women vying for the title of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2012 from across the sate.  Contestants included Desiree Bridges, Miss Teton County Fair and Rodeo from Jackson; Holly Kennedy, Miss Laramie Jubilee from Laramie; and Bailie Allshouse, Miss Cody Stampede of Cody. The contestants were judged by a panel of three highly qualified judges including Kent Sturman of Thornton, CO; Johna Niedfelt of Grand Island, NE; and Judy Rogers from Scottsbluff, NE.

Brittany Richards, Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2011, was on hand for the awards ceremony.  The Wyoming State Fair Director, James Goodrich, and Wyoming Director of Ag, Jason Fearneyhough, presented the saddle to Kimberly.  Kimberly took home the categories of personality and appearance.  She also won the sales achievement award, knowledge award, photogenic award, and the speech award.

The first runner-up went to Holly Kennedy, Miss Laramie Jubilee of Laramie.  Holly won the horsemanship category and the most ads sold at Wyoming State Fair award.  The second runner-up went to Desiree Bridges, Miss Teton County Fair & Rodeo of Jackson.

Bailie Allshouse, Miss Cody Stampede from Cody won the awards of congeniality and scrapbook.

Kimberly Kuhn is the daughter of Pete and Vickie and calls Laramie home.  A fifth generation ranch owner in Johnson and Sheridan counties and the Big Horn Mountains, Kimberly has been blessed to be raised a Wyoming cowgirl.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming in Agriculture Business with a minor in finance.  She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, SPURS Honorary, Ag Ambassadors, UW Rodeo Team and was a recipient of the National Western Stock Show Scholarship.  Kim is a member of Wyoming Rodeo Association, Mile-Hi Barrel Racing Association, Cowgirls of the West, and Big Horn Basque Club.  She was honored to serve Cheyenne Frontier Days as Miss Frontier 2009, and was a leader of the CFD Dandies.

Kim has earned her Gold Congressional Award and was commencement speaker at her high school graduation.  She worked as a Student Page for the 59th Legislative Session and earned the Y.E.S. Award.  Kimberly held many leadership positions in FFA, DECA and was a Varsity member of the Golf and Dance teams.  She was also awarded the FFA Area Star in Agricultural Placement Award.  She enjoys breakaway roping, running barrels, singing, golfing and spending time with her family.
