OneNest is a revolutionary home built by Mark Turner\u00a0and filled with the masterful paintings of his sister, Kathryn.<\/p>\n

These two distinguished and creative siblings, Mark and Kathryn, are collaborating in this\u00a0unprecedented event. Raised on an historic ranch in the mountains of Wyoming, this dynamic\u00a0brother and sister team are inspired to share a revolutionary building design of space, sustainability\u00a0and energy efficiency along with spectacular impressionistic paintings of landscapes, wildlife, and the\u00a0Capitol region.
\nFive years in design, the OneNest Project demonstrates that, in 1000 square feet, radical approaches\u00a0to design, materials and building science can capture that simple notion that we all universally yearn\u00a0for happiness and a place to share it. With his bold approaches to building, Mark challenges us to\u00a0think anew about how we live in constructed environments: space utilization, light, energy\u00a0conservation and affordability. Mark founded this national, award winning company in 2008\u00a0with hopes of revolutionizing how we build our homes as a foundation for more sustainable…and\u00a0happier lives. GreenSpur’s value is coupling good design with practical building solutions in order to\u00a0obtain long term sustainable objectives including energy efficiency, healthy lifestyles, low\u00a0maintenance, social returns on investments and ultimately spaces people enjoy working in and\u00a0coming home to. \nBuilding some of the area’s first carbon neutral homes, GreenSpur’s work has been featured in the\u00a0Washington Post, Washington Times, Traditional Home, Washington Spaces, DC Modern Luxury,\u00a0MSNBC.COM and Channel 4 and Channel 9 Local News. In partnership with West*Group\u00a0Development and Charity Works, GreenSpur’s Carbon Neutral Home in Mclean, VA won Project\u00a0of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders, Project of the Year from United\u00a0States Green Building Council Regional Chapter and was one of the first certified LEED Platinum\u00a0homes in the area. GreenSpur’s work has been featured in DC’s Environmental Film Festival 2010\u00a0and given a Certificate of Recognition from the Board of Fairfax Supervisors. GreenSpur’s carbon\u00a0neutral home on Capitol Hill just won the award for the Mayors Award for Historic Preservation.<\/p>\n

The Artist:\u00a0<\/em>Kathryn Turner is a nationally-celebrated painter who takes familiar subject matter \u2013 mountain\u00a0vistas, streams, sky \u2013 and interprets them in her own unique way. The paint is poured, scumbled,\u00a0layered, sanded back down and scratched through. The result is imagery that glistens with interest.\u00a0In her words, \u201cMy need to create flows from the privilege of participating in the miraculous nature\u00a0of the creative process rather than rendering some notion of a perfect product. The creative process\u00a0is a confluence of nature\u2019s inspiration and my personal interpretation of what I am experiencing. I\u00a0strive to create paintings that record my own experience of the subject\u2019s essential spirit and energy,\u00a0not an imitation of a fixed surface reality. This process requires my presence, enthusiasm, openminded\u00a0appreciation, playfulness, courage and honesty. In this way, creating art is transformative,\u00a0universal and timeless.”<\/p>\n

As a teen, Turner had the opportunity to study with acclaimed landscape painters and then\u00a0continued her art education in such celebrated places as Italy, Mexico and Washington DC. The\u00a0artist has since returned to her native Wyoming, but remains committed to her evolution as an artist
\nbeyond the sphere of her youth. Kathryn\u2019s hard work has yielded both local accolades and national\u00a0recognition. In 2011, she was the top awardee of the National Impressionist Society. Her work has\u00a0been widely collected nationally and featured in many museums including the Leigh Yawkey\u00a0Woodson Museum of Art, The National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Charlie Russell Museum.\u00a0Southwest Art Magazine distinguished Turner among the \u201cArtists to Watch\u201d predicting what has\u00a0indeed become a most promising career.<\/p>\n
